THE TASK THIS YEAR

In a group of 2,3 or 4 choose ONE of the following to study :
1) A mathematician i.e. Pythagoras, Archimedes, Eratosthenes, Pascal, Fibonacci
2) Calculating aids e.g. counting rods, an abacus, pair of compasses, calculators
3) Where does a mathematical idea come from? e.g. Ancient Greece, Egypt
4) Number systems e.g. How did the Egyptians use hieroglyphics? The use of Roman numerals.

Make sure you:
a) include some background about your chosen topic
b) give examples of how your topic is used today

IMPORTANT

- You can use the library and the Internet for your research but please make sure your work is written in your own words.
- This work will be completed during lesson time and for your homework.
- The finished piece of work needs to be between 4 and 8 A4 pages in length.
- Presentation is very important your work will be displayed on the wall and needs to be completed by Friday July 6th.
- Judging will take place on Friday 6th July when you will have to give an oral presentation.
